A meme commenting on consumer culture with the use of Funko Pops.

My name is ALYSSA CASTAÑEDA. I am a digital media artist attending San Jose State University in California. I consider myself an amature meme artist. The content I produce is niche, superficially edgy and questionable. When creating artwork my main end goal is to make people laugh while providing commentary about society and our own inner conflicts. How is technology ruining our lives? Why are we so obsessed with Funko Pops? When will Hello Kitty say ACAB? Why won’t God unmake me?

Digital media has been a huge influence in my life growing up in the 2000s. I started drawing in Microsoft Paint and creating home videos in Windows Movie Maker in the 4th grade, and since then I have been enthralled with computers and the limitless potential at my fingertips. Now that I am older and getting serious about my future career in Digital Media Arts, I still draw a lot of inspiration from the content I watched on TV and on the Internet as a child while trying to expand on my interests then with my interests now. I draw a great deal of inspiration from Alan Resnick, Jason Steele and Adult Swim Content.

As well as creating content for myself, I try to be present in the San Jose music scene through commissions creating show fliers, album cover art, and other visual content for artists.

I love to code for web development, such as HTML and CSS. I want to expand my abilities in Javascript and learn C. I am very comfortable with programs like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Animate, and the Sony Vegas Series. Learning Blender is a huge goal for myself that I think this major will help me accomplish. I believe overall, continuing my pursuit in Digital Media Arts will help me accomplish learning more software, but more importantly give me a sense of purpose in my little life by doing what I love to do: create.
